Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have now named three teams competing for the title: Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Shearer and Lineker are speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football Podcast’ with Micah Richards and discuss their picks for the Premier League.
Although Shearer is not ready to move to Man City, Gary Lineker believes Arsenal and Tottenham are right in this combination.
Shearer spoke for the first time: “I won’t change my mind.I said City.
And Lineker then shared his thoughts: “Of course I went to Arsenal.
“Mainly because you say City and we can’t say City!
” “But here they are, alongside them and it’s great to have Tottenham in the title race – certainly the race for a top-four spot and doing much better than expected.” It’s certainly perhaps a bit harsh that Liverpool isn’t mentioned.
It looks like fans will be treated to a four-horse race this season, something that hasn’t happened in a while.
And although Shearer didn’t mention Arsenal or Tottenham, he must think they’re just behind Man City.
Shearer still thinks Man City will lead Arsenal and Tottenham to the title Of course, comparing the three mentioned, Erling Haaland could ultimately make the difference.
Manchester City have a world-class goalscorer, and the same cannot always be said for north London clubs.
However, Son Heung-Min is currently doing a great job replacing Harry Kane’s goals at Tottenham.
A player who Ian Wright admits is currently one of his favourites.
But Arsenal still lacks a player capable of scoring 20 goals/season consistently.
Gabriel Jesus has many bright qualities, but has not proven himself as a consistent goalscorer.
And Alan Shearer still has doubts about Eddie Nketiah’s ability to lead the attack for Mikel Arteta.
As Shearer points out, Man City remain clear title favourites, but Arsenal and Tottenham must believe they have a real chance.
