Following Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing loss to Chelsea, Yves Bissouma’s exit from the field has garnered attention.
Due to injuries and dismissals, Bissouma was one of only three Tottenham players who played the entire match against Chelsea on Monday.
And the £25 million midfield player showed no signs of hiding his annoyance as he made his way through the tunnel.
With a bag of footballs, Bissouma kicked them in the direction of the dressing room to vent his resentment.
Naturally, Bissouma, along with many others associated with Tottenham, must have been greatly inspired by Ange Postecoglou’s team’s early lead in the match.
In addition, Cristian Romero’s teammates must have felt let down by the defender even though Postecoglou chose to support him following the match.
Romero has long had issues with discipline, but under his new manager, things appeared to be improving.
Nevertheless, the combative relationship with Chelsea proved to be too much for the defender to handle in the end, as he repeatedly lost his cool.
In addition to the problems it caused that evening, Tottenham will now need to get ready for Wolves on Saturday with a makeshift back four.
After Tottenham against Chelsea threw away their lead, Bissouma was furious.
While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg did a great job in the role when he came on, it does not appear likely that he will start this weekend at center back.
On Monday, Eric Dier demonstrated his ability to step in with relative ease. Ashley Phillips will probably follow suit shortly.
The 18-year-old has not yet made his Spurs league debut.
Dejan Kulusevski, though, is certain that Phillips is now prepared to take the next step.
Yves Bissouma, who was clearly irritated following the Chelsea loss, will now have to serve as Postecoglou’s experienced advisor.
Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury may require surgery starting on Monday, raising concerns.
Tottenham will also need new leaders to emerge, considering the length of time he might be absent.
Maybe Guglielmo Vicario, who Gary Neville praised for his performance on Monday, will now take the lead and assume more accountability.
