Fabrizio Romano provides update on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez
Fabrizio Romano confirms Tottenham Hotspur has sent scouts to monitor in-form Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.
The truth is that Spurs sold Harry Kane in the summer transfer window and did not bring in a replacement striker.
Richarlison has undergone pelvic surgery and will be sidelined while James Maddison is injured in the 4-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea.
Son Heung-min is not young anymore and although Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon have been signed, they are still raw talents and have much to prove.
With that in mind, Tottenham’s interest in Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez makes perfect sense.
Speaking about Spurs’ interest in the player, Romano wrote on his CaughtOffside blog:
“We keep receiving rumors about Santiago Gimenez, who is doing very well at Feyenoord – rumors about Chelsea and Tottenham, but from what I can tell you, Tottenham has sent people to watch Gimenez many times, he is playing very well and scoring goals, but at the same time I heard Chelsea are not prioritizing him but are focusing on other players.
If Spurs are looking for this player then it must be some kind of rumor.
We may really need a new striker, especially as Richarlison is now linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian Super League.
To say the 22-year-old man was on fire is an understatement.
He has scored 15 goals in 15 matches in all competitions this season and this return, at this age, will clearly attract the attention of other big teams.
As well as Nicolas Jackson’s hat-trick against a nine-man squad, he has struggled at Chelsea while Christopher Nkunku, not really a natural number nine, has been injured for a while.
Therefore, we will have to pay attention to the Blues’ interest in this player.
