Ange Postecoglou can certainly put an end to Tottenham’s trophy drought, according to Alan Hutton, provided he receives support during the January transfer window.
The match against Wolves exposed Tottenham’s shallow squad, as the Lilywhites found it difficult to control play and generate opportunities in the absence of several of their star players.
James Maddison’s injury severely hindered Spurs in the last third at Molineux, and Hutton acknowledged he’s not sure Giovani Lo Celso could replace the England international’s creative vacuum.
The former right-back for Tottenham stated to Football.London: “It will be extremely challenging to fill the void Maddison leaves.” Many Tottenham supporters are relieved that Rodrigo Bentancur is back, but I believe he will need to step up. However, in my opinion, is someone like [Giovani] Lo Celso capable of succeeding? I’m not certain. He’s had enough chances, in my opinion.
“I don’t think he’ll ever be your go-to guy, but he’s needed right now. I have faith in Ange, but he won’t be able to fix it quickly. He will need a few transfer windows to try and correct things and increase squad depth.

Hutton, who was a member of the 2008 Tottenham team that last won a championship, thinks Postecoglou is implementing the essential adjustments to get the North London team back in the running for titles.
Speaking highly of the Australian coach’s influence at the Premier League team, the Scotsman pleaded with the Spurs management to support him in the transfer window.
“I think Ange Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air,” Hutton continued. He was successful at Celtic and will want to repeat that performance at Spurs.
“I believe that’s Tottenham’s responsibility going forward. They probably didn’t anticipate such a rapid turnaround, but the play style is exactly what the supporters are hoping for.
“The losses have been consecutive, with not too great injuries. He is going to experience some minor difficulties. Tottenham was fortunate to have the international break, but I still believe they can succeed this year.
“I believe it will be challenging to run for the league. What they do during the January transfer window is what really matters to me. I believe they will succeed if Ange is able to secure funding for further investment and they hire smart.
“I believe that the club’s culture has shifted; now, we’ll score three goals if you score two. Right now, we have some talented players that can go out and accomplish something. They’ve had far too many seasons, in my opinion, where they were overly defensive.
“Ange wants to put a lot of pressure on the team by winning the ball back in the first five seconds. I believe that the players have truly embraced that, which is why we’re witnessing some excellent performances.
Postecoglou always knew it would take a few transfer windows to assemble the team he desires. With the way the Australian coach has begun, he has earned the respect of Levy and the Spurs administration, and I fully anticipate that they will support him in January.
