After winning the title of Italy’s best young player, Giorgio Scalvini appears to have a bright future ahead of him.
The 19-year-old Italian has been a standout player in Serie A and has been excellent for Atalanta over the last 18 months.
Scalvini has been linked to several elite European clubs, as is the case with any young player emerging from a club like this. Fabrizio Romano, speaking on Kick, claims that Tottenham quietly attempted to sign the teenager in the summer but were turned down because of Atalanta’s exorbitant asking price.
Spurs made a Scalvini bid.
Romano gave what information he had about the young man.
“The best Italian player for the U21 team is currently taking home the trophy. It’s Giorgio Scalvini here. Atalanta’s center-back is a highly skilled player who is not as well-known throughout Europe, but we know him well in Italy.
“A lot of teams are keeping an eye on him. I heard that last summer, Tottenham was thinking about making a move. He was one of the hidden players on their list, but they chose to pursue other options because Atalanta was demanding absurd amounts of money for Scalvini.”
Worth observing
Even though Tottenham decided not to sign Scalvini at this time, they should still keep an eye on him.
If Tottenham makes it into the Champions League this year, they stand to gain a significant financial boost, and they obviously still think highly of Scalvini.
To strengthen their lineup, Spurs still need to add depth at center-half, and bringing in a young player like Scalvini might be the answer in north London.
Going forward, keep a watch on Scalvini as a player because he is a defender with a very high ceiling.
And his performances during his last world cup were remarkably exceptional.
