Son Heung-min has shared a conversation he had with James Maddison during the latter’s time at Leicester City. In it, he praised Maddison’s impact as an attacking midfielder since joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Speaking on Men In Blazers, Son asserted that Tottenham has been lacking a player like the 26-year-old since Christian Eriksen’s departure in 2020.
James Maddison’s debut at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could not have come at a better time. In the Premier League, the England international has helped Ange Postecoglou’s team with five assists and three goals.
Honoring James Maddison is Son Heung-min
Madison has been arguably the best player in the Premier League so far this year. Undoubtedly, he has quickly established a fantastic working relationship with Son Heung-min.
It may come as no surprise to Son that Maddison is doing well in North London. The captain of Tottenham has revealed that he has long been a supporter of his teammate, even going so far as to compliment him when they play against his old team.
“We didn’t have a player who could make that final pass or decision after Christian Eriksen left the team. H worked there for a few years. However, it was evident as soon as Madders arrived that Spurs required a player of his caliber. He’s obviously adapted quite well. He puts in a lot of effort to be involved in this club. All he is is a star boy, a shining boy. And I’m just so happy to have a player like this,” he said to Men In Blazers.
“When he was still at Leicester, I was a huge fan.” I still recall telling him, “What a player you are,” following a Leicester match. You’re an excellent player. And it was much appreciated by him.
“I was among the happiest guys in the world as soon as he went and signed for us.”
Tottenham now has a genuine argument to make.
Sadly, Tottenham might soon realize how crucial Maddison is to their revamped team. He was hurt in the thrilling defeat to Chelsea. Additionally, he was absent from Wolves’ loss prior to the international break.
It appears that Madison will be sidelined for the remainder of the year. That is undoubtedly a huge setback for Tottenham because he has the ability to turn a game around with one outstanding play.
Son’s life will undoubtedly be more difficult without him. Spurs now have a point to prove because many are unsure of how they will manage without him.
Given Tottenham’s quick start to the season, it looks to be an utterly devastating blow.
