The goal of Tottenham Hotspur’s acquisition of Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice is to bolster their defense.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider, Tottenham is moving quickly to sign the 23-year-old, and initial negotiations have already started.
“Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Spurs want at least one center-back,” he wrote. “Preliminary talks are underway as Spurs explore a move for Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo.” In a Ligue 1 title fight, Nice will not be amenable to losing one of their best players in the middle of the season, so it won’t be an easy deal to make. The French team may outbid Tottenham on Todibo, I’ve been told.
The 23-year-old has made a name for himself in the league as a dependable player, and Tottenham may find him to be a wise long-term investment. Ange Postecoglou will have more options to work with with his arrival and he will provide defensive stability.
Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are the team’s only trustworthy defenders right now. Since joining the team at the beginning of the season, Van van Ven has excelled for Tottenham; however, he is currently out due to injury, so the team needs other options. Furthermore, Eric Dier has been connected to the January departure from the team.
Next month, Tottenham will be in a desperate search for a good central defender, and Todibo most definitely meets the bill. The move to the Premier League will be an exciting advancement in the career of the 23-year-old French international, who will want to prove himself at the greatest level.
He possesses the physical and technical qualities necessary to succeed in English football, and in the future he might establish himself as one of Tottenham’s main defenders.
It will be interesting to watch if Tottenham and his team can come to a deal.
