Parsons first appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area, saying he had nothing against 49ers quarterback Purdy and didn’t criticize him.
After the Dallas Cowboys’ star edge rusher seemed to poke fun at Brock Purdy in a post on X.com during Monday night’s loss to the Ravens, Micah Parsons stirred up controversy once more regarding the 49ers.
On his podcast “The Edge with Micah Parsons,” Parsons did admit that Purdy did not play poorly and that he was impressed with how the 24-year-old quarterback had performed during the 2023 NFL season.
Parsons clarified, “People were looking at my tweet and had all these opinions, but I never mentioned Purdy once.” “I discussed the events that were occurring in the game. Christmas night found me, along with most likely your fathers and mothers, watching the game. I’m taking notes on my ideas. When I wake up, will the 49ers be on my mind? Not at all. My two kids are here. To be honest, I don’t give a damn about the 49ers; that’s for Deebo Samuel and everyone else.
“I’m referring to the game here. That’s a fair assessment based on my page. I don’t believe Purdy had a poor game. He had interceptions, of course. I don’t think Kyle Hamilton played a bad game, but I know he wishes he could have it back. We discussed Purdy’s demise. Is he able to play defense? Can he have that “MVP” moment where he proves to us that he is that guy and that this isn’t a scam? In my opinion, Kyle Shanahan is unquestionably among the NFL’s top offensive coordinators and coaches.
“It is evident that they were reluctant to participate in the dropback game due to the intense pressure involved. They enjoy playing with a lead because, quite obviously, their defense is excellent. All I was implying was that the truth is always correct. I have nothing against Purdy; as I previously stated, I still believe he is having a fantastic year.”
During an appearance on “Up & Adams” earlier this week, All-Pro wide receiver Debbie Samuel defended Purdy, telling host Kay Adams that he didn’t understand why Parsons kept bringing up the 49ers.
Samuel said to Adams, “But back to Micah Parsons.” We defeated you [42–10] a long time ago, bro. Why he’s so upset about what’s going on over here, or whatever the situation may be, is beyond me.”
“The Niners are here. We have an impact on everyone,” Samuel continued. “When things don’t go as planned, everyone is quick to point fingers and no one wants to see us win.”
According to Pro Football Focus, Parsons is a strong contender for the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. He leads the NFL with 97 quarterback pressures and has recorded 13 sacks.
The standout edge rusher has, however, discussed the 49ers in public multiple times since their Week 5 encounter, most notably when he claimed the team was “humbled” following their demolition of Dallas at Levi’s Stadium in early October.
Parsons maintains that he only meant to express his opinions about Purdy’s current performance and had nothing malicious in mind when he made his most recent remarks about the 49ers quarterback.
