Tottenham Hotspur have agreed personal terms in principle with Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, sources have confirmed to 90min.
Spurs have set finding a new center-back as their main objective during the January transfer window. The team is now searching.
Tottenham was reportedly interested in 21-year-old Dragusin, according to a report from 90min earlier this week, but a deal would not be as simple to close as implied by the Italian media.
90min has now been informed by sources that Spurs and Dragusin have come to a wide understanding over personal terms; however, this was never anticipated to be a sticking point.
The majority of the challenges in closing the deal will come from the transfer fee, which is still up for discussion between Tottenham and Genoa. Spurs were first informed that a signing cost of about £20 million would have been sufficient to get Dragusin; however, this is not the case, and the Serie A team is demanding a higher amount.
Tottenham is keeping an eye on a number of center backs, including Dragusin, and will not hesitate to seek other options should they and Genoa be unable to reach an agreement on a price. In the same way, Tottenham decided not to pursue deals to sign Edmond Tapsoba and David Raya in favor of signing Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven during the summer transfer window.
Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice is highly regarded by Spurs, although concerns about a possible transfer cost still exist.
Spurs, who have combed Europe for appropriate choices, are also interested in Ben Godfrey, Tosin Adarabioyo, Lloyd Kelly, and Sebastian Caceres.
A hamstring injury to summer acquisition Van de Ven, who was among the Premier League’s best center-backs this season before pulling up in November, partially ended Spurs’ season.
Cristian Romero is currently out with a similar muscular injury after missing games due to suspension as well.
