Ange Postecoglou has issued his verdict on Rodrigo Bentancur after the midfielder made his return for Tottenham Hotspur in their win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
Spurs rounded off 2023 with a victory against the in-form Cherries. Pape Matar Sarr, Heung-min Son and Richarlison bagged the goals for the home side.
But the victory was not the only huge boost Tottenham received on Sunday. Rodrigo Bentancur made a surprise return to the starting lineup after just a month out.

Bentancur was substituted during the loss to Aston Villa after taking a brutal challenge from Matty Cash, and it was anticipated that he would be sidelined until mid-February.
However, the Uruguayan eventually made a far earlier return.
And in an interview with Match of the Day, Ange Postecoglou said that it would be really beneficial for his team to have the former Juventus player back.
When asked about the midfielder’s return, he responded, “Brilliant, main positive apart from the result.” He is an amazing football player and a great guy, so he pushed hard to come back and train with us. He also gave everyone a lift. He can use the training pitch this week after completing 60 minutes today.
Spurs need midfielder to play big role over the rest of the season
On Sunday, Tottenham sustained further injuries.Alejo Veliz and Sarr both left at a time when Spurs are likely having trouble in fielding a team for the game.
Given how quickly Bentancur has returned, Postecoglou will be cautious about hurrying him. But having him back in the mix might be revolutionary.
He was one of the Spurs’ few bright spots from the previous campaign. Despite missing a significant portion of the season due to injury, his five goals put him third in the league after Harry Kane and Son for Tottenham.
If Bentancur is able to contribute significantly in the second half of this season, it may be very beneficial for Tottenham.
