The Philadelphia Eagles’ recent performance has understandably angered AJ Brown, but the standout wide receiver maintains he is not placing any blame on his coaches.
In his interview with reporters on Wednesday, Brown appeared to address the recent reports that he is dissatisfied with the playcalling and coaching staff of the Eagles. He began by complimenting head coach Nick Sirianni on his self-accountability and loyalty to the team.
Brown remarked, “I can respect Nick’s desire to improve himself in some areas, but loyalty is not one of them. He stands up for us even when it has nothing to do with us, which is why I say that. It’s his job to take the blame, but he accepts it. Jalen (Hurts) engages in the same behavior occasionally.
Brown continued by saying that player errors rather than coaching failings are the cause of Philadelphia’s four losses in their previous five games.
This year, the coaches did not play any snaps. The coaches are not the problem. It’s us,” Brown remarked. “The play is over if one person makes a mistake, as I previously stated.”
Brown declined to talk to the media after Philadelphia’s 35-31 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. He said nothing more than that there was “nothing to talk about” and that he had “nothing towards y’all” in frustration. Some interpreted that as Brown being dissatisfied with the coaching staff of the Eagles or the strategy used against Arizona.
Then, a report surfaced in which an unnamed Eagles player chastised Brown for his nonverbal cues. It’s likely that all of those factors contributed to Brown’s decision to correct the record on Wednesday.
Brown only managed 53 yards from 4 catches against the Cardinals. Although he still has an excellent season total of 1,447 yards and 105 receptions, he had a run of six straight games with 100 yards or more earlier in the season. By the end of that run, the Eagles were 8-1. Brown is likely of the opinion that it was no coincidence.
