Celtics player Matt O’Riley who has been the subject of transfer rumors has responded in an intriguing way.
When asked if he would like to stay at Celtic Park permanently, the star player for Celtics gave an odd response, ending it with the phrase “we’ll see.”
This season, the 23-year-old has been a revelation for the Bhoys. Over the course of 27 games across all competitions, he has tallied ten goals from central midfield and ten assists, three of which came in the Champions League.
“I think everyone knows how much I love playing for the football club,” O’Riley said in a post-match interview that aired on Sky Sports. I’m having a great time so far. It has been nice to have the fans personally support me, especially this season. Still, let’s wait and see.
Is Matt O’Riley’s departure from Celtic affordable during the January transfer window?
Not just on Celtic’s team, but currently ranked among the best players in the Scottish Premiership, is O’Riley. His passing, movement (both with and without the ball), and his newly found love of goal scoring make him an absolutely invaluable asset at Celtic Park.
He will inevitably leave the Hoops eventually, but in the interim, they should and probably will fight valiantly to keep him in Glasgow’s green area. If he were to depart in the middle of the season, it would be devastating; if he departs in the summer, the Celtics will have more time to find a suitable replacement.
Since the Danish international inked a new contract with Celtic in September, a January transfer now seems implausible. After that, the Bhoys might find it difficult to hold onto him, particularly if he determines leaving the team is the best course of action.
