This offseason, Alabama will experience some attrition because nine players have already registered on the NCAA transfer portal.
Alabama is experiencing roster attrition following their Rose Bowl defeat. A number of Alabama football players declared their plans to use the NCAA transfer portal.
In all, nine Alabama players declared their intentions. Two wide receivers, a tight end, two offensive linemen, two defensive backs, and one defensive lineman are among the players on the list.
Reporter Matt Zenitz covering college football outlined the entire list. It included tight end Miles Kitselman, wide receivers Shazz Preston and Malik Benson, and quarterback Eli Holstein. Terrence Ferguson, an offensive lineman, and starting center Seth McLaughlin were also on it. Additionally leaving the program were Monkell Goodwine, Earl Little, and Kristian Story on defense.
This is the current state of college football. It’s evolved into a kind of free agency sport. Compared to earlier times, players now have a lot more flexibility and ease when leaving their schools. For the sport, NIL and the transfer portal have changed everything. In all seriousness, the student-athletes’ lack of severe limitations is a good thing. Thus, everything is done to further the common good.
Even so, it’s a rather sobering figure to bid them farewell. Although Alabama’s roster will undoubtedly change, the team should still enter the 2024 season as one of the best in college football.

Head coach of Alabama football Nick Saban was listed as a finalist for the George Munger Award, which is given to the best coach in college football. On Wednesday, the Maxwell Football Club declared the five finalists.
In addition to Saban, the other finalists included Steve Sarkisian of Texas, Mike Norvell of Florida State, David Braun of Northwestern, and Kalen DeBour of Washington. In Monday’s Sugar Bowl semifinal of the College Football Playoffs, Sarkisian and DeBour squared off. The Huskies prevailed, securing a trip to the national championship game.
After going undefeated in the regular season and the ACC championship game, Norvell’s Florida State team controversially finished behind Alabama in the final CFP rankings. Georgia easily defeated the Seminoles in the Orange Bowl despite major roster opt-outs.
Braun assumed temporary leadership following the scandal-plagued dismissal of longtime Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Braun will return to lead the Wildcats in their inaugural season after they finished 8-5 and defeated Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Early in the season, Saban’s Alabama squad gave off a bad impression. The Crimson Tide started the season slowly before picking up steam in wins over South Florida and Texas in Weeks two and three, respectively.
In its final season, Alabama won the West division of the league after going undefeated in SEC play. The SEC championship game saw the Crimson Tide defeat Georgia.
Alabama lost to Michigan in overtime on Monday in the Rose Bowl semifinal after qualifying for the playoffs as the fourth-seeded team. Nevertheless, Saban declared that the team was among his best in Alabama.
“As a coach, you’re always trying to get your team to be the best that they can be, and I think this team has probably improved more than any other team I’ve ever coached from the early-season games against South Florida and Texas,” Saban said following the victory.
On January 10, the award winner will be revealed. Saban (2016) and Gene Stallings (1992) are the other Alabaman winners of the award.
