Leeds United Have Fired Their Head Coach Just Because…
The Spaniard has guided the south coast club to 12th in the Premier League and has the likes of Dango Ouattara, Luis Sinisterra, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo to call upon. Dominic Solanke aside, Bournemouth’s forwards haven’t been overly productive, so a future within Iraola’s first team plans is by no-means out of the question. If Bournemouth did decide to recall Anthony, it would have to be with a view to sending him back out on loan in the Championship – and that’s a lot of work to do in just a couple of weeks. With there likely to be incomings at Elland Road over the next couple of weeks, the Cherries’ position on their on-loan winger is certainly one to keep a close eye on.
Bournemouth recalling Anthony and sending him elsewhere is certainly an option. The winger is at an age where he needs to be playing first-team football; contributing in a bit-part role will diminish his chances of fulfilling his potential. With the exception of Willy Gnonto, Anthony’s underlying numbers and output are significantly less than Farke’s go-to attacking midfielders. Now, as Leeds look to add another quality addition to their ranks in Benson, the 24-year-old’s minutes are set to be cast into further doubt.
The West Yorkshire club have also reportedly displayed an interest in Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, with Daily Mirror (via MOT Leeds News) claiming the Whites, along with Middlesbrough and Southampton, are eying a January swoop. Now, with two weeks left of the January window, the Leeds boss is looking to add further attacking talent – primarily to help unlock stubborn low blocks, particularly when the Whites are on their travels. One player who Leeds are reportedly “pushing” for is Burnley’s Manuel Benson. Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims (via Twitter, 18 January) the 26-year-old is seen as a replacement for Willy Gnonto, who is attracting attention from West Ham United.
Daniel Farke is looking to rejuvenate his team’s automatic promotion bid in the second half of the season. A top-two finish was always the aim, anything less would be considered a failure. Leeds’ home form hasn’t been an issue; the emphatic 4-0 win over Ipswich Town demonstrated the firepower and Premier League quality at Farke’s disposal. The issues have purely been away from the comfort of Elland Road.
