It’s an era of good feelings for the Lions, who recently won their first postseason matchup since 1992 with a 24-23 wild-card victory over the Rams. Detroit will look to keep that in the divisional round as the No. 3 seed Lions host the No. 4 seed Buccaneers at 3 p.m. ET Sunday. Tampa Bay most recently dominated the Eagles in wild-card action, wreaking havoc on Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts & Co. en route to a lopsided 32-9 victory. One of the biggest storylines to watch in the divisional round will be the quarterback battle between the Lions’ Jared Goff and the Bucs’ Baker Mayfield. Goff went 22-for-27 for 277 yards and one touchdown in the wild-card round, while Mayfield went 22-for-36 for 337 yards and three touchdowns.
The Detroit defense ranked 23rd in scoring defense at 23.2 points per game in the regular season and 19th in total defense at 336.1 yards per game. But the Lions racked up seven sacks and held Atlanta out of the end zone in a 20-6 victory in Week 3. Glenn, 51, is in his third season as Detroit’s defensive coordinator. Glenn was a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback during a 15-year NFL playing career from 1994-2008. He intercepted 41 passes, returning six for touchdowns, while playing for the New York Jets (1994-2001), Houston Texans (2002-04), Dallas Cowboys (2005-06), Jacksonville Jaguars (2007) and New Orleans Saints (2008).
He also has coached defensive backs in New Orleans and was assistant defensive backs coach in Cleveland. Glenn, a defensive back, was the 12th overall pick by the Jets in 1994 out of Texas A&M and played 15 seasons. He also played for Houston, Dallas, Jacksonville and the Saints and was named to three Pro Bowls.
Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk promised to cast a wide net in replacing coach Mike Vrabel, who was fired on Jan. 9 after six seasons. Johnson coached quarterbacks for Philadelphia in 2021 and 2022 before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2023. He started coaching in 2010 at Utah, where he played quarterback. He also coached at Mississippi State and Florida.
The Titans interviewed Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on Wednesday night and a pair of offensive coordinators Thursday in Thomas Brown of the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Texans’ Bobby Slowik. They also interviewed Antonio Pierce, who was hired Friday as the Las Vegas Raiders’ coach. Tennessee also spoke to Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
