Will he perform at Jimmy Garoppolo’s level? Purdy can attribute his poor performance against the Packers (86.7 quarterback rating) on the weather, but he also had a poor showing against the Cowboys in the divisional round of last year (87.4 rating). Both games featured performances reminiscent of Jimmy Garoppolo, and the opposition failed to make crucial interceptions that may have altered the outcome. Purdy’s postseason luck has been somewhat better than Garoppolo’s thus far, but still better than his.
Is he going to be as good as Jimmy Garoppolo? Purdy may blame the weather for his subpar performance against the Packers (86.7 quarterback rating), but he also had a subpar game against the Cowboys in last year’s playoff round (87.4 rating). Jimmy Garoppolo-like performances were evident in both contests, and the opponent was unable to produce vital interceptions that may have changed the game’s outcome. So far this playoffs, Purdy’s luck has been marginally better than Garoppolo’s, but still superior.
When will he finally show up? In four straight playoff games, he hasn’t produced a sack, and he most definitely didn’t deserve the enormous salary he received during the regular season. Everything will be forgiven if he wins on Sunday and sacks Jared Goff a couple of times. To win this game, the 49ers will need to sack Goff multiple times, which means Bosa must perform.
