When the Cleveland Browns were losing to Houston, two of their leaders displayed their team’s culture.
During Monday’s year-end news conference, Andrew Berry shared the tale of Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller wrapping out the season for their teammates.
The shortened version of Berry’s narrative begins when Bitonio entered the locker room with a very high ankle sprain and the Browns were behind by three or four scores. Rather than calling it a day on that season, Bitonio returned on the field for Cleveland to ensure he Teller then sustained a calf strain, which required him to wear a boot by the next morning. Berry couldn’t help but feel that Teller needed to come out as she watched him limp around.
Berry remembers thinking, “This is really cool,” at that precise time. Even though there wasn’t much on the line for two of our more seasoned players, they knew right then and there that this particular squad would never again play together.”
Many of us were either unaware of or didn’t give any thought to those two playing. He wrote it down for Berry. Berry responded, “We have something here.” “that visual is going to be the thing that motivates me this offseason.”
