SHOCKING NEWS: Cleveland browns just lost a key player today..
The coaching staff at Cleveland Browns saw offensive lineman Drew Forbes, who was selected by the team in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Southwest Missouri State, as a player who could compete for a starting spot right away and had made 35 straight starts.
It is evident from a quick look around the league that many offensive linemen are selected in the latter rounds of the draft. Before being traded to Cleveland in 2019, RG Wyatt Teller was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round, just with the Browns. OT Dawand Jones was chosen in the fourth round of the previous draft.
Forbes was a standout for Southwest Missouri and was considered by several teams for the draft. Despite not getting an invitation to the Combine, he had a great Pro Day. Of all the offensive linemen at the Combine, his 40 time of 4.87 would have been the best reading. In most areas, he would have finished near the top with different drills.
After his senior season at Southwest Missouri State, he was named to the Walter Camp, STATS, Phil Steele, Associated Press, HERO Sports, and Athlon Sports All-America teams. He was also named to the First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference.
At North County High School in Bonne Terre, Missouri, where he was named captain of the football team, he was honored to be named both an offensive and defensive lineman on the First-Team All-Mississippi Area Red Conference squad for the same season. Forbes completed his athletic career as a member of the track squad, played basketball, and soccer.
