Jimmy Morrissey, the center, and receiver Chase Cota were signed by the New York Giants to reserve/future contracts.
At six feet four and two hundred pounds, Cota played collegiate basketball at UCLA from 2018 to 2021 and Oregon in 2022. Following the 2023 draft, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions. Against the Giants in the preseason, he set a team record with four receptions (seven targets) for sixty yards.
Cota, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad after being cut by the Lions, was released on December 5. Cota is the son of veteran NFL safety Chad Cota (1995–2020, multiple teams). He most recently joined his cousin, safety Brady Breeze, in Houston, where he was a member of the Texans practice squad.
The 6-foot-3, 303-pound Morrissey played collegiate basketball for Pittsburgh. The Las Vegas Raiders selected him with selection No. 230 in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, although he was not included on the 53-man roster upon leaving training camp.
After joining the Raiders practice squad, Morrissey signed with the Texans a month later. He played in five games that season, starting four of them.
Over the next two seasons, Morrissey alternated between the 53-man roster and the Texans practice squad, playing in eight games in 2022 and one in 2023 but not making a single start.
