Superstar Halfback Recruited by Former Cowboys Player Due To…….
On Friday, a former player for the Cowboys used social media to court Giants halfback Saquon Barkley. This offseason, the Penn State prodigy is expected to become a free agency. During the previous offseason, New York had the chance to sign him to an extension but chose to sign Daniel Jones instead. As everyone is aware, that move paid off for them. Jones didn’t even play in eight games during New York’s dismal season. The quarterback should have had a lot better season even if he didn’t play well. Having said that, Barkley will probably leave the Giants as a result of this decision.
Like New York, the Cowboys will soon enter free agency with their lead back. Tony Pollard suffered from both a poorly performing line and play concepts. Dallas could be able to retain him around with a favorable contract, but it wouldn’t be shocking if they parted ways with him. If Dallas decides to move on from Pollard, Barkley is among the best backs on the market. Over his career, he has experienced both seasons that were cut short by injuries and moments of pure brilliance. Although Barkley’s injury history is concerning, the team still has promise with him. In 14 games, Barkley carried for just under 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023, but he only averaged 3.9 yards per carry. The New York back’s averages were down this year, but he could still have a lot more to offer on a team like the Cowboys, who have superstar Cee Dee Lamb.
Dallas has very little room for cap expansion. The Cowboys would need to sell cap-sucking veterans like Michael Gallup and restructure large contracts in order to make room for Barkley and other talented free agents. Although Barkley is still in his “prime age,” his market is probably in the $8–10 million bracket, making it more expensive than that of someone like Derrick Henry. Simply put, Dallas would want additional cap space in order to pursue Barkley. Anticipate that the Cowboys will restructure contracts in order to create space for another season.
