1. Most Browns fans will want to know: “Who will call the plays next season?” Will head coach Kevin Stefanski keep it for another season, or will it be Dorsey? We’ll get to that in a moment. I’d prefer Stefanski keep the duties, but I’m hearing that’s not a given. The Browns really like Dorsey.
2. Why would the Browns hire a guy who was fired as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator after the Bills had a 5-5 start in 2023? That was my first thought when I heard the news. Here’s what I heard about Dorsey: They believe he can help the Browns find a better offense for Deshaun Watson

The Browns were impressed with the work done by Dorsey with Cam Newton. Dorsey was Carolina’s QB coach from 2013-17 when he had the athletic Newton. The Panthers went to the 2015 Super Bowl. Newton was the MVP, Mike Shula was the offensive coordinator. Along with Dorsey, those two coaches developed an offense to highlight Newton’s running ability and athleticism while also improving his passing game.
4. Dorsey was so highly regarded in Carolina that he interviewed for the head coaching position in January of 2023. That job eventually went to Frank Reich. In November, Reich was fired. So was Duce Staley, the running backs coach. Staley was recently hired to that position with the Browns.
5. After Carolina, Dorsey’s next stop was Buffalo. He was QB coach from 2019-21. In 2022, he became the offensive coordinator. With him calling the plays, the Bills ranked second in scoring and second in yards gained. Dorsey helped Josh Allen enhance his game i
n their first four years together.
problems after it opened the year with a 3-1 record. Then the Bills lost four of five games. At that point, Allen had a league-leading 14 turnovers (11 interceptions, 3 fumbles). The offense was being criticized for not running the ball more and predictable play-calling.
