After years of success, Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales finally got a well-deserved opportunity to be a head coach.
Canales will head to a divisional rival to try and work his magic with the Carolina Panthers, leaving a big vacancy in Florida. With that in mind, the Bucs will reportedly interview former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, according to Ian Rapoport. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost one of their most prominent figures on the coaching staff.

Canales will head to a divisional rival to try and work his magic with the Carolina Panthers, leaving a big vacancy in Florida. With that in mind, the Bucs will reportedly interview former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, according to Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport adds that Van Pelt could also be in the mix for the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator job. Van Pelt worked briefly with Baker Mayfield during his time in Cleveland, so it would make sense for Todd Bowles’ coaching staff. He was also instrumental in establishing the run in Berea, and that’s a point of emphasis for the Bucs going forward.
For years, the Bucs have had one of the worst rushing attacks in the league, and while they continue to be committed to running the football, they just need to get better there. Van Pelt helped the Browns make the playoffs despite a rash of injuries at the quarterback position this season, so he clearly can adjust to different styles.
