The Las Vegas Raiders are looking for young talent to improve their roster in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Raiders started to build a foundation in last year’s draft class but could add more players with their picks to truly solidify a young core. Under Coach Antonio Pierce and General Manager Tom Telesco, the Raiders will look for players who fit the culture Pierce established when he took over in an interim role midway through the 2023 season. One of those players could be Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who comes from a Bulldogs team that is consistently one of the best defenses in college football. A competitive, athletic defensive back, Lassiter could be a perfect fit for what the Raiders want to do defensively.
Lassiter finished his Bulldogs career with 86 total tackles, eight and a half tackles for loss, a sack, 14 passes defended, and an interception. While the numbers do not jump off the page, Lassiter’s physical tools and upside make him an enticing prospect. Lassiter is 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. Those measurements may seem small, but he plays much bigger. Lassiter is an impressive run defender, showing impressive physicality and the ability to get off blocks with strong hands and quickness. Lassiter is also an impressive coverage corner. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just 56 receptions on 108 targets for 726 yards and two touchdowns. Those two touchdowns came in one season, and Lassiter did not allow a touchdown in two of his seasons with the Bulldogs.
Lassiter is one of the best athletes at cornerback in the draft class. He has a prototypical outside corner skill set and the motor necessary to be a No. 1 corner. He also played special teams for the Bulldogs, which he could keep doing at the next level. While Lassiter likes to play physically, he tends to use his hands too much, which could get called for penalties in the NFL. His lack of ball skills is a concern, as star corners need to make plays on the ball at the next level. Lassiter is projected as a late first-round selection. While it could be early for the Raiders at No. 13 for him, if he falls into the second round, Las Vegas could find themselves a star.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024.
