The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team saw another week of movement in the polls after splitting last week’s slate of games.
The Crimson Tide lost to Southern Miss 9-7 in its midweek matchup and 11-3 to Tennessee on Friday, but won Games 2 and 3, 6-3 on Saturday and 7-6 on Sunday, to take its first SEC series of the year.
With the series win, Alabama jumped three spots from No. 14 to No. 11 in the newest D1Baseball Rankings, the biggest jump so far this year for the Crimson Tide. As for the Volunteers, they fell three spots to No. 8.
This week, the Crimson Tide will start a five-game road trip starting with playing Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala., on Tuesday. Then, the team will travel to Athens, Ga., for a three-game series against the Georgia Bulldogs. Finally, it caps off the trip with a game against Belmont in Huntsville, Ala., on March 26 before returning to Tuscaloosa to play a three-game series against South Carolina from March 28-30.
The Justin Fields era is over, but people are still talking about his time with the Chicago Bears because general manager, Ryan Poles, could only muster a Day 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in return for Fields’ last three years. Yes, the Bears totally messed up when it comes to gauging Fields’ market, and, they totally messed up the timing. Fields should’ve been traded as early as possible, but instead, the Bears were obviously a little too focused on the return. In the end, the Bears received peanuts for what was once considered the future of the franchise and that’s never a good look. But former NFL quarterback, Robert Griffin III has taken things to a whole new level in a video he posted to Twitter/X on Monday morning. I have all the respect in the world for RGIII, but it’s been a while since I’ve heard so many inaccurate, wrong takes in a two-and-a-half-minute span. I don’t blame you if you stopped the rant even 30 seconds in. Essentially RGIII says Caleb Williams needs to pull an Eli Manning and tell the Bears he isn’t coming to Chicago, even if the Bears draft him. It’s because of how everything went down with Fields. RGIII says his situation proves the Bears won’t have Williams’ best interests at heart and that the organization doesn’t have what it takes to produce a successful quarterback. He also says the Bears aren’t currently set up for Williams to have success. And to put a nice little bow on everything, he says the Washington Commanders are a better spot for Williams than the Bears, mainly because Poles and Matt Eberflus have to win 10 games in 2024 or they’re fired. There’s a lot to break down, here, but the entire take can easily be squashed in a couple of paragraphs. For starters, the whole reason Poles went ahead and traded Fields was because he didn’t want a potentially toxic situation in Williams and Fields sharing a locker room, plus he wanted do right by Fields and get him to a new team early enough to where Fields has a real offseason to acclimate. Instead of you know, holding him on the roster until OTAs or even training camp, therefore limiting his opportunity to compete/learn the system on whichever new team. RGIII also pins everything on Poles, who didn’t even draft Fields. Eberflus didn’t even coach him during his rookie year. This is not the same front office that drafted Fields and initially put him in a bad spot. In fact, Poles and co. have done a tremendous job of revamping a roster that was absolutely awful as little as two years, or three offseasons, ago. The Bears’ roster provides an excellent opportunity for any quarterback to come in and have success. There’s also no guarantee Eberflus and Poles are fired if the team doesn’t win 10 games. They could easily go 7-10, again, with Williams and be just fine. As long as the coaching staff showed competence and Williams showed good growth and potential, everything would be A-OK. And, finally, the fact RGIII argues Washington is the best place for Williams to succeed is objectively hilarious. You wanna talk about an organization that doesn’t know how to provide stable environments for success? Sure, Dan Snyder is no longer running the show, but that doesn’t immediately erase decades of awful management and we also have no idea how things will turn out with Josh Harris and co. Washington’s roster is also nowhere even close to possessing the talent of Chicago’s current setup, as well. And, they have a proven offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron, not a cast-off in Kliff Kingsbury. It’s a ludicrous take that honestly makes it seem like RGIII has a personal vendetta against the Bears. Hopefully Williams just laughs all of this off and understands the opportunity that will come with playing in the Windy City.
